Just TRI It: Everything you need to know about triathlon training

Triathlon is one of the fastest growing sports!  Many athletes enjoy the challenge and natural cross-training of taking on three different sports in one race.  Have you ever thought about doing a triathlon?  Are interested in giving it a shot, but aren't sure where to start?  Or, do you have a few tri’s under your belt, and are looking for a PR or to tackle a longer distance?

Come to Fleet Feet on Sunday, April 23 at 3:00 for an interactive presentation and discussion.  Pittsburgh-based Triathlon Coaches Anne-Marie Alderson and Michael Bauer will be talking all things triathlon.  They'll discuss gear, triathlon training, triathlon lingo, tips for your best performance, and what to expect on race day.

The presentation will include the topics below... but feel free to bring your questions, as there will be plenty of time at the end for Q&A!

  • Sprint, Olympic, Ironman… ?  Learn about the different distances and how much time you should expect to train for each distance
  • Gear:  Essentials vs. nice to have
  • The most common mistakes triathletes make in their training/racing and how to avoid these mistakes
  • Balancing 3 types of training (and how tri training is different than single sport training)
  • How you can train efficiently when short on time to get faster and improve performance

Anne-Marie and Mike will also discuss group coaching programs to prepare for the Janney & The Y North Park Sprint Triathlon (August 6) and the Pittsburgh Sprint/Olympic triathlons (Aug 12-13).  These programs are suitable for beginners looking to make their first triathlon (or a few!) and would like to improve their performance through a structured training program with access to coaches and group training activities.
