Join the Fleet Feet Running Club on Sunday, September 1st at 7:30am for our annual fundraiser to support the Joey Fabus Childhood Cancer Foundation.
Each year, the FFRC dedicates a Sunday Group Run to the Fabus Family to help raise awareness and collect donations for the JFCCF. This year, we're combining this event with our "Watermelon Run" here at Fleet Feet where you can enjoy freshly sliced watermelon when you return. These runs are open to the public and we offer 5k, 10k & 10-Mile maps for runners of all abilities.
We also encourage everyone to #DoTheRunThing and participate in the Joey Fabus Run Over DIPG 5K Race & 1-Mile Walk. This family friendly events happens right here in the South Hills on September 15! There will be no FFRC run that morning so that our runners can attend the race.
Joey Fabus was an 8-year-old boy when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in May 2014. His cancer was DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) and the current survival rate is 0%. Most children afflicted with this disease die within 9-12 months of diagnosis. On January 21, 2015 surrounded by his loving family, Joey died from DIPG. The JFCCF began in honor of Joey Fabus to let the world know what an amazing boy he was, to raise awareness, and to raise funds to be donated to successful DIPG research facilities throughout the world in hope that a cure will be found for this awful disease.
